That Old Person

Coming into focus for me lately is the fact that these few good friends I have are the people I’m going to grow old with here in Greenville. I hope that when I’m 55, I’m still sitting on the right hand side, toward the front, of Village Church, with my friends Sarah and Jill.

Our pews will be empty of our kids, which is a sad thing to think about now.

I am trying to form a new habit, which is to put my phone in the kitchen junk drawer each evening when TJ gets home from work, and to leave it there until after the kids are in bed. These few hours of phone-out-of-sight is one way I’m choosing not to bring another item to the obstacle course.

Early fall weather and Irma aside, we have had a challenging beginning to the start of sixth grade this year. Yesterday Bauer was consumed with schoolwork from 8:30am until 9pm. There were some breaks along the way, and meals, but he carried the burden of many things still unfinished all throughout the day as he slogged through one challenging task after another.

Provided your rut is leading you where you want to go, there is certainly nothing wrong with doing what you’ve always done. I’ll use the same toothpaste forever, and the same purse. Methodical “Play Nice” will be the coffee of my choice until they stop making it. You already know me and Tandem, and me and GB&D.
